Cheese Berlin 2017

Cheese will be on centre stage at Markthalle Neun! And not just any cheese, but those handcrafted and deeply rooted in their places of origin, telling stories about people, animals, and landscapes. – all in one place for just one day, no plane, train or climbing gear needed.
This year’s focus is on cheeses from the Alps: Comté, Gruyère, Emmentaler – mountain cheese! Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, France, Austria and Bavaria’s Allgäu will come together in Berlin. And thanks to centuries of Swiss cheesemaking traditions being
spread to other parts of the world, we are happy to welcome “alpine” cheesemakers from eastern Anatolia. Just a few steps further, you will also find some of our favourite cheesemakers from Berlin’s immediate surroundings, other regions of Germany, from all over Europe and the world!
Cheese Berlin will kick off on Friday night: Dominik Flammer, the alpine food expert, will present his film “Urkäse” on ancient cheesemaking traditions, followed by a tasting of these very cheeses. More tastings on Saturday will take us high up into the Alps of the present day, preparing us to explore the wide world of cheese at the big market on Sunday.
