Berlin Food Digest #23

The Michelin Star issue

Nov 29th, 2017

Dear Reader,
For the last week, Berlin’s culinary sky shines slightly brighter with the latest allocation of three more Michelin stars. Find out which restaurants won what at last week’s gala by reading my Berlin Michelin Stars 2018 article. (Spoiler: They’re two surprises).
And with the festive season creeping up on us, stay tuned as I plan a bumper Christmas newsletter, my usual NYE restaurant guide and more festive cheer than Mariah Carey after six cups of eggnog. And by the way: Gift Cards for my BFS Berlin Food Tour also make a damn great gift for mama, papa and any other people you hold dear in your life. Just sayin’…

ps. Don’t forget, you can sign up to the newsletter to get insider tips and more in your inbox every month!

Khwan Berlin Menu Selection

Daniel Budde’s pralines are a work of divine intervention so let’s all hail the sugar goddesses who made sure he now has a fixed booth inside Moabit’s Arminius Markthalle. Bring it on.

A self-titled ‘gastropub’, Rusty is the new Neukölln joint which finds its home inside a former Eckkneipe venue on Sanderstr.

Linos BBQ
Giving us a fiery, smokey reason to visit Wedding, this authentic Texas BBQ joint has been getting some great reviews of late. Time to check it out.

Hooray for Friedrichshain as Boxhagenerstr. now boasts its very own (serious) ramen joint. My first take on this project? One of the most honest and loving ramen projects Berlin has seen. Promising!

Bringing you Martin Müller & Kristof Mulack’s exciting take on modern German cuisine in a former Eckkneipe venue, Tisk is sure to set the bar high for Berlin’s new wave of gastropubs.

Three closings for you: It looks like Bosco Italian bistro in Kreuzberg, Aunt Benny‘s Markthalle Neun outpost, and Prenzlauer Berg’s Bar Gracia tapas bar have closed their doors for good.

Daniel and David, the ever ambitious powerhouses behind everyone’s new-favourite Thai restaurant have confirmed they’ll be taking over Gaststätte am Ufer‘s canal-side location in Kreuzberg next year. Serious news for Khwan’s many fans…

La Soupe Populaire
As the uncertainty surrounding this magnificent temple of fine Prussian cooking wages on, rumour has it that a reopening is becoming more and more unlikely and this project may never resurface again.
