This eventful year is officially OVER! Behold the restaurant roundup for December, which also is my last one for the year. There are:
4 Awesome food events you need to check out
3 Restaurant closures (which make me eternally sad)
2 glittery Michelin Stars (well done Rutz & einsunternull)
And THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to New Year’s Eve 2016!
HAVE AN AMAZING XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
(Don’t forget, you can signup here to receive the Berlin Food Digest when it hits inboxes first every month. Those signed up receive a monthly Insiders Tip to where they should be eating out AND I include extra competitions for them. Signup and join the gang.)
Daniel Achilles, Head Chef at the double Michelin-starred reinstoff, will be taking a month off from fine dining in February to develop new dishes in a more relaxed dining concept called freistoff. You’ll find it at reinstoff’s Schlegelstraße home.
One of Berlin’s most famous third-wave coffee roasters has found a new flagship home at Kranzler Eck, West Berlin’s most iconic restaurant location. With its 360 degree views, three sun terraces and The Barn’s infamous brews, there’s a whole new reason to join the crowds of Kurfürstendamm.
This new bar from the Contemporary Food Lab team promises a unique selection of craft beers as well as bar snacks, all served from its new home right next to Panama on Potsdamer Straße.
There’s a new (and much needed) Taiwanese restaurant in town on Dahlmannstraße in Charlottenburg and people in the Chinese community are VERY excited about this – which means I am as well!
It’s official: Roel Lintermans, current Head Chef at Les Solistes by Pierre Gagnaire, will be taking over as Culinary Director for Grill Royal. Fantastic food news for Berlin’s most famous celebrity hangout. Less so for the Waldorf Astoria, which has decided to close the doors of Les Solistes.
The world’s first 3D-printed restaurant is in Berlin until Saturday! Guests will sit at 3D-printed tables before eating an 11-course, 3D-printed menu. Hopefully it tastes better than it sounds!
Sad but true! Three of my favourite joints (and purveyors of some of Berlin’s finest lunches): Antipodes, Louis Pretty and Bourbon Dogs have all run their last service. One thing’s for sure: Berlin is pretty low on decent sandwiches right now.
