Till the cows come home is a fresh eatery in Northern Berlin and the perfect place for a lunch that is both healthy and tasty. Located in a pimped shipping container, this place is easy to both overlook and underestimate. You shouldn’t.
Till the cows come home is squeezed in right between The Barn and Platoon on Schönhauser Allee and quite easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re looking for. It really looks more like the office of the people operating the parking lot than a restaurant, but luckily looks are indeed deceiving and this is a place where you can get a seriously good meal. And once you take a closer look at the establishment, it’s actually very lovely. The small container is situated under a massive tree that provides some much needed heat during hot summer days and there is a large outside area of wooden benches on a patch of grass. That’s also good, as there are about 6 seats inside and once it starts raining it gets preeetty cosy.
And this sucker is pretty fucking tasty, the aubergine is perfectly cooked, the ratatouille the best I’ve had for years
The food is a mix of mediterranean cuisines, the owners are half German and French with a Greek bar chef but they take inspiration from all over the place and this results in a mix of fresh salads, sandwiches and other, healthy and fresh treats. A good example is the signature dish “Heaven on a plate”, essentially a baked aubergine slice, ratatouille, a poached egg and tahini on sourdough bread. And this sucker is pretty fucking tasty, the aubergine is perfectly cooked, the ratatouille the best I’ve had for years and the bread is from Mr. Sironi himself, our famous Italian baker from Markthalle Neun. Other highlights on the menu include the “Holy Cow”, which really just is avocado and a poached egg on Sironi bread, but still so tasty. Or how about the spinach and mushroom salad, a very fresh dish with perfectly fried king oyster mushrooms. Not to forget the fact that at TTCCH you can eat breakfast all day long, oh yeah, so why not treat your body right with some super healthy but still sublimely tasty spelt porridge with caramelised apples.
Till the cows come essentially serves some of the freshest and healthiest food in Berlin
And if you’re hungry and are short on time you can just grab one of the ready made sandwiches and be on your way. But really, you should stick around. And while you do you should have one of the freshly made smoothies or juices, because they are, surprise, bloody delicious as well. Till the cows come essentially serves some of the freshest and healthiest food in town right now. They do what places like Spreegold and many others try but they actually do it awesome and on a consistent level. Unfortunately it’s still not easy to eat a quality meal in Berlin that is both healthy and tasty and this makes TTCCH one a favourite lunch spot. The downside with this place can be very slow service but this is just once in a while.
